“A ship is safe in the harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ~William Shedd
When we opened to Matthew 6:24 (last week’s sermon here), we found two masters. One is Satan, one is God. We found that our inclination to serve our own self-interests really is driven from our own sin filled, worldly heart. That sin filled heart operates from what it knows. Therefore, we are dualistic in our challenges. How can we be self-focused and dualistic simultaneously? That seems contradictory. In our attempts to understand man and his divided loyalties, it is that confusing. We can take infanticide (aka abortion) as an example. The world calls infanticide “abortion” and the child that is murdered a “fetus.” They see no problem identifying this murderous act scientifically to soften the tone of the conversation. Murdering organizations (and the murderous politicians that support them) claim that every woman should have control of her own body. In this control is the right to abort the human child growing in her womb. Technically, the child is not as much a part of her body as the womb in which it lives. The woman does not consider removing her womb – only that which lives within it. Further, if the woman goes to a doctor and he or she murders the child in the womb, it is a “medical procedure.” However, if she herself exercises this so-called authority it is murder. In some glaring cases recently we see the clear hypocrisy in man’s operation which worships the pagan god Molech (2 Kngs 17:31; 2 Chron 28:1-3). We also see the frightful control of national health care over life. In September 2009, Sarah Capewell gave birth to a premature baby boy in England. Because their National Health Care refused to treat him (he was born two days too early to qualify for preemie care), they left him in the delivery room to die. He was breathing on his own with a strong heartbeat for two hours before he died. Hypocrisy rules when we also read that in March of 2008 Tiffany Wilson of Oglethorpe County Georgia gave birth to a child and left him on the back porch, then went to school. She later buried the baby boy. Miss Wilson was charged with murder, but the doctors were carrying out “health care.” You might say, “But one is in England and one is in the United States.” Scripture describes unbelievers who profess a self-determinate wisdom to be fools (Rom 1:22). One might biblically say, “Fool that you are, you might think that our bureaucracy would never go that far.” European national health care and socialism is the pattern our leaders are following. If government will pay for abortions of any sort, (including convenience of the mother – included in our recent health care law) then life has no value.[i] Bureaucrats will set subjective and arbitrary limits and values on life focused upon cost savings. We now have National Health Care, just like England does. You cannot say baby Capewell cannot happen in the United States.
What does abortion and other forms of murdering infant children have to do with serving two masters? Simple. When boiled down to the purest form, all of these people serve only one master, they can serve nothing else. They are of their father the devil, and they want to do his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning. Satan does not stand for the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature because he is just as equally a liar as he is a murderer (Jn 8:44). Satan lies to perpetrate murder just as we have been lied to in order that the current national leadership can now perpetrate wanton murder under the guise of “National Health Care.” They will use this tool to control the population of America. They will manage health care for the elderly, the infirm and the unborn/newly born among us. Many liberals ask, concerning tort reform, “What is a life worth that we can limit damages in malpractice suits?” Now the politician makes this decision bureaucratic because they are afraid to commit their ideas to law and carry out their elected responsibility. Federal regulation will determine the value of life as it denies health care to certain groups due to cost. What will the homosexual community say when they are denied health care under our national system because they are 44 times more susceptible to STD’s? Will they see the foolishness of their choices then, both personally and politically? Probably not because they serve only one master – their personal desires, themselves.
Well, we see the plight of serving Satan. We should realize there are only two choices. Either we serve Satan or we serve God. When we serve only ourselves we actually serve Satan. When serving Satan, we become fearful for the wrong things. This is the next step in Jesus’ argument concerning our sinful hearts. Jesus tells us that when we serve ourselves we actually fear man and the things of the world instead of God. Matthew 6:25-34 discusses the fact that the lack of faith in God results in fear. If our faith is strong, we are strong and of good courage. If our faith is weak, we waiver in the wind and are driven as snow. Today we will take a broad-brush look at these scriptures.
