More and more secular studies today confirm what God already knew, fathers are essential to a healthy family. Another fact that many in our country want to believe is that having two fathers or two mothers is just as valuable as having faithful monogamous husband and wife parents. A supposed equality of same sex parental leadership is regularly debunked to the disdain of a minority in our country.
Fatherly leadership in a child’s life is vital. On a personal note, I was fatherless growing up and I know, after being a father of three, and blessed to be an active grandfather of four I have received the greatest privilege given to man on earth, to share Christ with my children and a second generation as well.
Fathers, we get to share and demonstrate steadfastness, honor, loyalty and above all display the righteousness of Christ. We have the privilege of exemplifying how even when our strength is waining, we press on to the mark. We get to show our children how to be stronger than they ever thought they could be, to continue when they are weak, to draw from our heart to finish what you start.
In Zechariah 1 we find where God is displeased with fathers. Not because they are not good people, but because they are not godly. They are not displaying righteousness to their children. Verse 2 says, “The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers.” Verse 4 says, “be ye NOT as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, thus saith the Lord of hosts; “Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings:”
Men, we are called above all to be righteous, to exemplify the righteousness of Christ, to show the purity of life for God to our children. Strive for that above all things.
