Many in our world today think of the conservative movement as equivalent to or in some way driven by Christianity. Others consider Christianity an arm of the conservative movement. Still others look at both movements as entities that support one another or that they are somehow linked in the political or religious realm as if to say their existence is co-dependent.
Truthfully, most Christians are more conservative than they are liberal politically. However, this does not mean that the conservative political movement is Christian. Nor does it mean that Christians depend upon conservatism in politics. We often make illogical leaps like this. For instance, when considering Noah’s arc being full of animals we immediately think they are all adult animals. Every depiction we view or read has adult animals entering the arc. We wonder, how could he get so many huge animals in the ship. We look at elephants and surmise there is no way those and other huge animals could fit on the arc.
Just as we can fall prey to concentrating on something others speculate about with Noah’s arc, we are fooled into thinking the same way about politics and religion. We hear man’s explanations in the media and believe they have the answers. After all, they are supposed to be the professionals.
God wants our “heart, mind and soul” to be fully committed to Him (Mark 12:30). He wants us thinking not just following the crowd. The chief Christian characteristic is charity or love (1 Cor 13:13). Christians may be conservative however, our greatest desire as Christians is to emulate Jesus and give ourselves in love to others as he gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20).
What happened in our most recent election then? Half the nation voted for President Obama. Half the nation voted for President Clinton in his second term when he was clearly a liar and adulterer – without character and virtue – what does that mean? Can we be a predominantly (most studies still say 75%) “Christian” nation vote for a very liberal president? Can Christian love described in the scriptures involve abortion and promoting so many social ills that liberalism supports? Do the attitudes of today define humanity for as much as 50% of our citizenry? Does 50% of our nation support wanton lying, character assassination and murder of the innocent yet still call themselves a loving Christian? Is that what a disciple of Christ does?
That is not the case. Thinking critically from a Christian biblio-centric perspective one possibility is that this is a clear warning to all true believers in Christ. God chooses all our political leaders and we are supposed to respect them (2 Peter 2:10). Clearly, those who claim Christ and vote for anti-Christian leadership may seem misled. This is not an argument for our president being THE anti-Christ. We will study “anti” Christ in a later article. The Bible tells us that believers in Christ are freed from deception (Psalm 24:4; Zephaniah 3:13; Revelation 14:5). It also tells us no one can know man’s true heart (Jeremiah 17:9). The scripture clearly teaches that true believers in Christ would not be deceived by such individuals.
We have now re-elected a president who was clearly implementing policies that are damaging to America and Americans. We have re-elected a man who supports murder in many forms for our people. He supports abortion; even if a woman might decide to murder her child within 28 days after birth. He supports live birth abortion; leaving children who survive an attempted abortion to die on a table (voted against IL Senate bills: 1082, 1095, 1662 all “Born Alive Infant Protection Act”). President Obama supports euthanasia, “I actually think that the tougher issue around medical care — it’s a related one — is what you do around things like end-of-life care….you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. It is not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that’s part of what I suspect you’ll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now.”
The nation elected a man who covets death. Does 50% of our nation want this type of humanity? If we do not want to believe that, then other alternatives exist that are even more frightening. Is it that the people do not care or are ignorant of the destructive attitudes of this leader. One conservative commentator said it well, no amount of logic, no crystal clear examples, not a single shred of factual evidence has swayed the people into seeing how destructive this leader’s policies are for our country.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 tells us that the antichrist will talk a great peaceful but destructive rhetoric and activities. He will have great and eloquent words for blessings and safety, but will wreak havoc and destruction. What’s worse, all the people will support this end times leader even though they know full well who he is, what he has done and the evil he has perpetrated.
No, our president is not THE antichrist. However, God has twice now given us a man of debauchery totally void of godliness and charity as president. God is essentially saying, this is what it will be like, Christian. We have been warned and ample examples have been given. The people will get what they ask for (Romans 1:28).
Conservative politics will not save this nation. Only the Son of God has such power. Believe in Him and His truth will set you free (John 8:32-36).
